Lightened Up Buffalo Chicken Dip

The best kind of party is one with some buffalo chicken dip. This lightened-up buffalo chicken dip is the perfect recipe!

So little side story, I brought this to my grandparents for Easter, and my grandma wouldn’t keep any leftovers because she said she said she didn’t need “the extra calories”. So she was pleased to find out this was a lightened-up recipe and gladly kept some for later! The moral of the story, she couldn’t even tell the difference between this recipe and the original one that uses a whole block of cream cheese!

What do you dip in buffalo chicken dip?

So many things taste great dipped in buffalo chicken dip, here are some of my favorites:

  • Carrots
  • Celery
  • Tortilla Chips
  • Bell Peppers
  • Cucumber
  • Toasted baguette slices
  • Crackers and wheat thins
What kind of cheese goes well with buffalo chicken dip?

Buffalo chicken dip is better topped with cheese, there is no question there, a blend of cheeses or sharp cheddar goes the best with this dip. I like to use a reduced-fat shredded Mexican blend, but if you do not have this, or can’t seem to find it, use sharp cheddar or low-moisture mozzarella. If you are one of those people who loves blue cheese, obviously you can top this dip with that but it may be risky business if you plan to share with a group!

How do you make buffalo chicken dip with fewer calories?

Your typically buffalo chicken dip uses a few blocks of cream cheese, instead, this recipe uses fat-free plain greek yogurt, and whipped cottage cheese. Cutting the calories nearly in half and adding in more protein so this recipe also becomes more satiating! Yum!

How do you make buffalo chicken dip less greasy?

Luckily, with many of the ingredients lower in fat this particular buffalo chicken dip recipe is not very oily! The reason this happens is because the oil from the cheese and cream cheese tends to separate when it is baked, but the whipped cottage cheese, and yogurt do not emit much oil!

Do I drain canned chicken for buffalo chicken dip?

Yes, it is necessary to drain the canned chicken before making this dip, otherwise it will be super watery.

How do you make buffalo chicken dip creamier?

The greek yogurt and whipped cottage cheese make this dish super yummy, and creamy. If you want it to be even more creamy I recommend adding more of both of these ingredients.

How can I make my buffalo chicken dip less spicy?

If this dip is too spicy for you, add a bit more greek yogurt and ¼ cup of hot sauce instead of ½ cup and this will be significantly less spicy!
