This crunchwrap is not like your typical taco. If you are familiar with the fast food chain Taco Bell, you may also be familiar with the Taco Bell crunch wrap supreme. If you look on the Taco Bell website you can find the full description of this menu item featuring ground beef, nacho cheese sauce, a crunchy tostada shell, and reduced-fat sour cream, all wrapped in a large flour tortilla.

Now don’t get me wrong, Taco Bell actually offers a lot of macro-friendly items, but save your money and make this copycat in your own kitchen! Make sure to have fun with this recipe, you can follow it exactly how I make it, or customize it and add even more delicious toppings or fillings.

Bonus tip, enjoy this wrap with some fat-free Greek yogurt as sour cream, and a nice, cold, jalapeno margarita… who is with me?

Ingredients:

Taco meat:
  • 1 lb 99% Lean ground turkey

Taco spice: (if you prefer you can use a taco seasoning mix)

  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • 1 ½ tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • ¼ cup salsa

Crunchwrap:

  • 1 Cut Da Carb Flatbread
  • 4oz or 112 grams of taco meat
  • 1 slice of fat-free American cheese
  • 3 tbsp salsa
  • Chopped pickled jalapenos (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a large nonstick skillet prepare the taco meat over medium-high heat by breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon and cooking fully until slightly golden brown. Add the spices and salsa and allow to simmer over low heat for 5-10 minutes to mend the flavors together
  2. Assemble your crunch wrap by layering a slice of cheese, taco meat, salsa, and chopped jalapenos in the center of the flatbread. Fold in all sides until completely wrapped (it will resemble a hexagon)
  3. Place the seam side on a warmed skillet, cover will foil, and cook on medium heat until browned on both sides
  4. Slice, and enjoy with fat-free Greek yogurt in a small bowl for dipping, and Quest tortilla chips on the side

Can you prepare the crunchwrap ahead of time?

I do not recommend preparing the crunch wrap ahead of time, it will get soggy and fall apart. Prepare the taco meat ahead of time, and construct the crunchwrap right before eating!

Can you make this recipe vegan?

To make this recipe vegan you can either make vegan taco meat or go to your grocery store and season vegan meat like this one. Instead of cheese, make vegan nacho cheese with cashews, like this recipe here.

What is the best way to fold a crunchwrap without it ripping?

The best advice I can provide is to make sure that you do not overstuff it. On a flat service, place all of your ingredients in the center of the tortillas, fold the top down, then follow clockwise until there are no cracks. It is also important you place the wrap seam down when you are warming it up, this seals it so it does not fall apart!

Do you have to make this recipe with ground turkey?

I prefer ground turkey to ground beef, but any choice of protein will work just fine! If you prefer ground beef the instructions of this recipe remain exactly the same, just a slight change in nutrition.
