Bagel Bites

Bagel Bites are a great fun treat for kids, but made more nutritious for adults. Pair it with a salad fruit or of course a protein bar and you’ve got a full meal in minutes.

Growing up, pizza was our family’s go to meal. I’m talking at least once if not twice or three times a week and not out of pure laziness, it was because we genuinely loved pizza that much. I mean, who doesn’t? We would order pizza from our local, small-town pizza restaurant with the ooey-gooey, cheese and thick crust, topped with sausage, mushroom, Canadian bacon and pepperoni.

As I got older, I realized ordering pizza by yourself wasn’t nearly as enjoyable and making and eating a whole frozen pizza isn’t great for your self-esteem. Let’s be real, I’m eating the whole pizza when I’m making a frozen one. They’re not filling AT ALL. Then I was introduced to Bagel Bites, not the pizza rolls, but the delicious bagel bites. They were small enough that I could eat the whole box and not feel guilty, but did you know that one serving is only four bagels. Not cool…and full of preservatives.bagel bites 2

Bagel Bite Creation:

Don’t you remember how much fun it was making mini pizzas with your family when you were a kid? We always used English muffins and assembled our very own pizza. I loved to do this still when I babysit to get kids involved. It’s a perfect opportunity to get creative with bagel bites!?

To make these bagel bites, begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees. Next, cut open the bagels and lay them flat on a baking sheet. Top with sauce, cheese and pepperonis. Bake for 10-15 minutes until the cheese is melted and browned to your liking.

Make it your own by getting turkey sausage, diced ham, veggies, or even ground hamburger for a taco bagel bite!?

I’ll let you in on a little secret. Use ONLY the top half of the bagel bites (they’re not cut equally) because they’re much smaller. If you’re weighing them out for the 86 gram serving you can get almost 6 full halves instead of 4 bagel bites in a serving!?

How Do I Track These Bagel Bites?

If you search in MyFitnessPal for HNFit Bagel Bites, you can enter this recipe into your daily meals. The macros for one serving – or four bagel halves is still less than 400 calories.

Lightened Up Bagel Bites:

So full disclosure, these bagel bites are just as calorie dense as the original frozen version, but not nearly as convenient. I’ve also created this lightened up version that uses mini pita dippers instead of bagels! If you’d like to track this in MyFitnessPal, search for HNFit Lightened Up Bagel Bites.

The original brand name bagel bites are 210 calories / 33 carbs / 6 fat / 0 protein for four pieces (even though, you know you’re going to eat all 9 that are in the box).

This recipe is 390 calories / 56 carbs / 7 fat / 27 protein for four BIG bagel bites (or six if you use my trick).

The lightened up version is 290 calories with 29 carbs / 10 fat / 24 protein for five smaller bagel bites!?

Which version are you opting for? Be sure to tag us in your post @MorganEatsMacros_ , @HaleyNicoleFit and @HNFitCommunity when you test out the recipe, but don’t forget to pair it with a salad and dessert, like our Ice Cream Shake!?
