An Iowa girl without a classic pulled pork recipe is just wrong. While it may not be as fancy as the Pioneer Woman Pulled Pork recipes, this is the easiest meal prep you can find and has become a staple protein option in our home.
From pulled pork dinner, sandwiches, nachos, tacos salads and more, this “almost Greek†themed recipe only takes about an hour from start to finish and can be used in just about any meal.
What do I need to make this easy pulled pork?
- Pork Tenderloin
- Bell Pepper
- Lemon Juice
- Juice from Peperonchini
- Garlic
- Lemon Pepper
- Dried Oregano
- Salt
- Pepper
How do I make pulled pork?
For this recipe, first start by taking the pork tenderloin and trimming the fat off and cutting into pieces– leaving a little is fine, but try to cut out the tendons and obvious fatty chunks for a better end product.
When the meat is cut, season with salt and put directly into the Instant Pot on the sauté feature. If you don’t have an Instant Pot, this is not crucial and will still be delicious without the sear. Next, once the sides are slightly seared add the remaining ingredients and seal the Instant Pot. Place on pressure cook for 45-50 minutes. Lastly, when it’s complete and the pressure is released, shred the pork to your desire.
This pulled pork can be cooked in the oven or in a slow cooker, too, but times will be much longer.
What’s the best cut of meat for pulled pork?
For this recipe, I’ve always used the pork tenderloin and have had incredible results every time. The tenderloin shreds perfectly after about 45-50 minutes of cooking and is hard to beat in terms of macros and taste.
Do you leave the fat on the pulled pork?
As mentioned in the instructions, I highly encourage you to cut as much of the fat off the pork tenderloin before cooking. While fat adds flavor while cooking, in the pulled pork recipe you want to avoid extra fat because of the shredding process.
What liquid can I use for pulled pork?
Liquid in the Instant Pot is crucial, but it’s also important in order to create the tender, easily shredded pulled pork! For this easy pulled pork recipe, the ½ cup of peperonchini juice is the perfect touch for a little flavor.
If you’re wanting to switch it up, a few other really great options to use rather than the juice would be Diet Dr. Pepper or Diet Pepsi/Coke. Additionally, adding the ingredient liquid smoke can give you more of a smoked pulled pork flavor.
What are the macros for easy pulled pork?
You can easily add this pulled pork to your meals in MyFitnessPal by searching HNFit Pulled Pork. For 100 grams, it is 16 grams of protein, 2.8 grams of fat and 3.5 grams of carbs, which makes it easy to add to any meal!
